Jamie Hickner (she/her/hers) is the Associate Director of the Baker-Nord Center and an Anisfield-Wolf Teaching Fellow. She studied English (BA, MA, Purdue University), Urban Planning (MUP, New York University), and American Studies (PhD, Purdue University, 2011). Her dissertation focused on how discourse on Africa shifted the U.S. Black Freedom Movement towards Black Power, Black Nationalism, and Black Internationalism. She writes on race, transnational and world literature, cultural production by the African diaspora, and educational equity. Currently, she is editing a collection of essays on teaching Anisfield-Wolf Award-winning writers, and she is writing a book on transnational African writers. Prior to Case, Jamie was on the faculty at Southern Oregon University, where she taught writing and literature courses, directed the college bridge program, and supervised Masters in Teaching students. She also worked in the nonprofit sector in NYC, taught in Germany, studied abroad in China, and taught through Teach for America. In her free time, she enjoys nature hikes with her family, gardening, and traveling.
